The Confession

The Confession
By: John Grisham

Description on the back: In 1988, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, Travis Boyette abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donte Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row. Now nine years have passed. Travis has just been paroled in Kansas for a diferent crime; Donte is four days away from his execution. Travis suffers from an inoperable brain tumor. For the first time in his miserable life, he decides to do what's right and confess. But how can a guilty man convince lawyers, judges, and politicians that they're about to execute an innocent man?

What I think about this book: If you want to see what John Grisham is all about, READ THIS BOOK! You might feel like you've already read all the good parts after reading the description on the back, but there is so much that happens in a short amount of time in this book that will make is so hard to put down! Trust me, if you're looking for a well-written, gripping book, read this one! You will also look at the death penalty in a new light. It starts fast, and ends fast. I give it two thumbs up! And my big toe too!

Just Ella

Just Ella
By: Margaret Peterson Haddix

Description on the back: Happily Never After. It's a familiar story: In spite of the obstacles put in her way by her wicked stepmother, Ella goes to the ball, sweeps Prince charming off his feet, and is chosen to be his bride. Now she's comfortably ensconced in the palace, awaiting marriage to the man of her dreams. It's happily ever after time, right? Wrong! Life for Ella has become an endless round of lessons and restrictions; even worse, prince Charming turn out to be more like Prince Boring. Why can't she talk with him the way she can with Jed, her earnest young tutor? Slowly, Ella comes to realize she doesn't want the life she fought to hard to win. But breaking her engagement proves more difficult-and dangerous-than escaping her stepmother's tyranny.

I found this book while skimming through books at D.I. and remembered loving it as a child (okay, I was more like 12 or 13). :) This book only took me a few hours to read and I was laughing out loud in quite a few spots. The plot is fairly predictable, but still a fun twist on the Cinderella story.

The Firm

The Firm
By: John Grisham

Description on the back: When Mitch McDeere signed on with Bendini, Lambert & Locke of memphis, he thought he and his beautiful wife, Abby, were on their way. The firm leased him a BMW, paid off his school loans, arranged a mortgage, and hired him a decorator. Mitch McDeere should have remembered what his brother Ray (doing fifteen years in a Tennessee jail) already knew. You never get nothing for nothing. Now the FBI has the lowdown on Mitch's firm and needs his help. Mitch is caught between a rock and a hard place, with no choice-if he wants to live.

Here's what I think about this book:
This was the first John Grisham book I read and I loved it! Grisham describes things in such a way that you'll want to keep reading from beginning to end. While reading it, I was anxious to figure out what this weirdo Firm was all about, and when it was finally revealed, I couldn't wait to see how it ended.

Recommend?  I would definitely recommend this book. Not only was it interesting, but I learned a lot more about the law field.
